Blue Star thrashes Navy

Kalutara Blue Star defeated table leaders Navy SC 3-1 at Welisara. The Navy defense who has just given away just one goal in 6 matches was penetrated easily with Afeez Olayemi scoring a brace.

The only goal in the first half was from the boot of Olayemi in the 17th minute. Halfway through the second half Navy’s Subash Madushan equalized but minutes later Arubishan Daniel gave the lead back to Blue Stars. The hosts were desperate to find another equalizer but Olayemi’s second goal in the final minutes destroyed all hope for the sailors.

Matara City Club recorded their second victory of the tournament by beating Java Lane 3-1 at the Matara Football Complex. The lads from Slave Island were favourites to win the match but fell behind to a goal from Victor Ikenna in the 31st minute. On the stroke of halftime Former FIFA referee M.A Ranjith awarded a penalty for Java Lane which was converted by Ruwansiri Samarawickrama who made it 1 all. Two goals in the space of 3 minutes by Ikenna and Shashikapriya sealed the Matara side’s famous victory.

Saunders SC got back to winning ways defeating Negombo Youth 3-0. Saunders who started the season with less impact and loosing earlier games have now changed their mentality and has come back to the Dialog Champions League with a good win. Mohamed Naleer scored the opener in the 31st minute. G.A. Udara made it 2-0 while the third was added by former Sri Lankan player Isuru Uditha Perera. Both teams have won the Dialog Champions League in the past and have to regain the lost glory against much advance new comers to the league.   

Don Bosco recorded a morale boosting 2-1 win over powerhouse Army SC at the Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa stadium. Army got off to a good start when veteran Mohamed Issadeen put the ball into the back of the net in the 24th minute. Don Bosco’s D.Vicky’s strike sent both teams into halftime 1-1. Don Bosco’s winner came courtesy of an own goal by Army player S.B. Bandara in the 74th minute.

Pelicans SC dominated the match against Kalutara Park SC winning with a score of 4-1. D.N. Ekanayaka opened the scoring in the 17th minute and an own goal from O. Oladime made it 2-0 for the Pelicans. S.B.Yousuf pulled a goal back for the home side but another goal from Ekanayaka and an 85th minute strike by A. Sanjeewa gave the visitors a comfortable win.

Solid SC recovered back from the shock defeat last week at the hands of Pelicans with a good win against New Youngs in front of their home fans. C.T. Francis gave the lead to the home side in the 35th minute but N.A.De Silva equalized just before halftime. The winner came from L.B. Ali in the 60th minute making Solid’s lead in the points table stronger.
