Revitalized Bishopians set to dive into victory

The Bishops College Water-polo team led by Keshya Ranatunga is all set to swim through to victory against their counterparts Vishaka Vidyalaya in their annual fixture played on the 23rd of October at Sugathadasa swimming pool complex.

Even though the competition between the two schools has been worked through eight long years, the U-19 encounter was introduced only last year. Up until then it was an annual fixture for the U-15 girls for either of the schools.

Girls from Colombo-03 had a nightmare in the inaugural encounter as they walked away in despair losing the encounter four points to seven.

Revamping themselves from a loss, this time around the outfit is all geared up to fight back for supremacy. Keshaya Ranatunge one of the experienced campaigners in the outfit will hold her mark in leading the alma-mater. She will put her hand up from the position of right bar playing alongside Ashanti Sumanapala and Thaveesha Eliyapura and the rest of the senior campaigners.

Four players from the junior team have worked up their ranks to fill the final slots of the team card. Thameesha Elliyapura expressing her views about the blend of the team said “Apart from the four junior players who has joined the rest of the players have been engaged in the sport for the past five or six years”.

Having a talented coaching contingent which includes the likes of veteran Aloka Prelis as the head coach while Chethana Munasinghe and Wasim Bawa will attend to their duties as assistant coaches. Chethana Munasinghe expressing his ideas of on the strategies to beat the arch rivals said

“We are playing a more collective team this time and we want all players to chip in do their parts so we can stick with our plan and execute it perfectly”.
ThePapare.com questioned the skipper on how the preparation has been for the encounter and Keshya said
“We have been practicing hard going back to our basics and with our new training regime we believe that fundamentals are really important and building a team culture with in the team; so we have been working together collectively building the team up”.

 

Facing the mighty Visakhians won’t be the easiest task in hand for the girls dressed in purple and white as they are in sublime form beating the LCite`s with a five goal margin last week. Vishaka having the likes of Samaakya Gajanayake, Tusari Ekanayake will definitely push the Bishopians out of the comfort zone.

Yet Bishops College outfit enriched with the talent of Thavisha Attanayake, Aneesah Fowzie and Avasha Bhoram will excute the counter-attacking plan in the perfect manner to bounce back and bring the trophy back in the cabinet.
