Binuthi to steer Sri Lanka under-16 girls team at SABA Championship 2025

The promising young talent from Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, Binuthi Ransadhi, has been appointed as the captain of the Sri Lanka Under-16 ladies’ team for the upcoming South Asia Basketball Association (SABA) under-16 Qualifiers to be held in the Maldives from 12th to 15th of June 2025 at the Youth Center Indoor Stadium in Male City.  

In this quadrangular tournament, under-16 teams from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and the hosts, the Maldives, will battle out to clinch the prestigious championship. Further, this marks an important fixture as the winners go through to the FIBA Under-16 Asia Cup.  

The skipper of the side, Binuthi Jayasinghe, is an agile player who is renowned for giving the maximum when there is immense pressure in the game. Further, she has an excellent talent for controlling the game and for creating scoring opportunities. Her great talents helped her alma mater, Holy Family Convent (HFC) Bambalapitiya, to rewrite a sparkling history in school basketball by winning the Under-20 All Island Inter School Basketball Championship for the fourth time in a row in 2024. In the victorious course, Binuthi was adjudged as the player of the final due to her unmatched talent showcased at the critical junctures of the game. 

Further, the Kandyan girl, Pramuditha, will be the deputy skipper of the outfit. She is also a promising young talent and her service will be valuable for the Sri Lankan under 16 side as they have been tasked to beat the formidable Indian side.
