Michael Phelps, the Olympic’s undisputed Golden athlete added two Gold medals to his tally making his total Gold count to 21 medals. The 31 year old American swimming sensation beat the defending champion Chad le Clos in the 200m butterfly to win his 20th Gold and followed it up with helping the United States 4X200M relay team win Gold comprehensively by a wide margin.

All Blacks sevens dealt a deadly blow by the Japanese

Men’s Rugby sevens kick started at Rio with Japan proving to be giant killers yet again beating the mighty All Blacks sevens team 12-14. It was a determined effort from the Japanese to down the mighty All Blacks for the first time in their 17th meeting and is a repeat of their Rugby world cup victory over South Africa.

Adding insult to injury All Blacks were dealt another blow when Sonny Bill Williams was helped off from the field after taking a crash ball into two defenders. Williams the biggest Rugby 15s superstar to feature in Rio has been ruled out of the tournament with an Achilles injury.

Top tennis seeds exit Rio

Defending champion Serena Williams is out of the Olympics after losing to Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the third round of the women’s singles.

Williams follows men’s top seed Novak Djokovic in exiting the Olympics after he was defeated in both singles and doubles. The 34-year-old’s exit means Angelique Kerber and Madison Keys are the only top-eight seeds remaining of what had appeared to be a very strong field.
