Sri Lanka’s premier annual volleyball tournament, the President’s Gold Cup Championship, will commence in July with over 4,000 teams participating island wide.

This was mentioned at a press conference held at Galadari Hotel.

Featuring over 60,000 players, this would be the largest tournament held to date and one of the largest sporting events held in the country.

The two decade old tourney is sponsored by Dialog for the 11th consecutive year, underscoring the company’s commitment to the development of the country’s national sport.

The President’s Gold Cup is hosted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation, and is worked off island wide over a period of four months, attracting teams from over 300 Grama Seva divisions island wide.

The matches will then subsequently be worked off at district and national level.

“We are pleased to note the great strides the national team has made in the region, and this is due to the popularity and platform we provide to the youth all over the country to excel at national level. As an active supporter of sports in Sri Lankan, we wish to express our appreciation to Dialog for once again stepping in to promote the growth of volleyball in Sri Lanka,” he adds.

“Dialog is pleased to extend its partnership with the national sport of Sri Lanka to over a decade,” remarked Harsha Samaranayaka, General Manager, Brand and Media – Dialog Axiata PLC.

“The national team and its players have performed well both on the local and international stage in offering great promise for the future, and we look forward to a sterling performance at this year’s South Asian tourney. I wish all teams the very best at the President’s Gold Cup 2016,” he mentioned ending his speech.
