Bangladesh bounced back in style to level the three-match T20I series with a thumping 83-run win over Sri Lanka in the second game played on Sunday (13th July) in Dambulla — their biggest-ever win against Sri Lanka in T20Is.

Chasing 178 for victory, Sri Lanka crumbled early, losing four wickets for just 30 runs in 5.1 overs. It began with a brilliant direct-hit from Shamim Hossain at point, catching Kusal Mendis short at the non-striker’s end. Shoriful Islam then removed both Kusal Perera and Avishka Fernando, before Mohammad Saifuddin dismissed Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka — all four batters failing to score at a run-a-ball rate.

Pathum Nissanka and Dasun Shanaka showed some resistance, adding 41 runs for the fifth wicket. However, Rishad Hossain removed Nissanka for 32, and Shanaka soon followed for 20, as the wickets kept tumbling. Sri Lanka were eventually bundled out for 94 – recording their lowest score against Bangladesh.

Rishad starred with the ball for the visitors, taking 3 for 18, while Shoriful and Saifuddin chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Earlier, after being put in to bat, Bangladesh lost both openers within the first two overs, with Nuwan Thushara and Binura Fernando striking early to reduce them to 7 for 2. Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy revived the innings with a 69-run stand for the third wicket. Binura returned to dismiss Hridoy for 31, and three balls later sent back Mehidy Hasan, leaving the visitors at 78 for 4.

From there, Litton Das stitched another crucial partnership — this time with Shamim Hossain — adding 77 runs for the fifth wicket. During this period, Litton brought up his 12th T20I fifty. He was eventually dismissed in the penultimate over by Maheesh Theekshana for a well-made 76, which included one four and five sixes.

Shamim Hossain’s blistering 48 off 27 balls (5 fours, 2 sixes) helped Bangladesh finish strong, posting 177 for 7 in their 20 overs. With the ball, Binura Fernando stood out for Sri Lanka with his best T20I figures of 3 for 31.
