The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka successfully conducted an Awareness Session for Team Sri Lanka participating in the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 on Monday, 2nd February 2026 at the Olympic House.

A total of 92 participants, comprising 77 athletes and 15 officials, took part in the programme, which was organized to prepare and educate the contingent ahead of the upcoming Games.

The session commenced with opening remarks delivered by the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Mr. Rifdy Fahmy. This was followed by the Team Brief delivered by the Chef de Mission of Team Sri Lanka for the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026, Mr. Samith Thilina, who is representing Sri Lanka Life Saving also a Disaster Risk Reduction Professional, Volunteer Rescuer, Water Safety and First Aid Trainer and Designer.

The Medical Brief was conducted by the Chief Medical Officer of Team Sri Lanka for the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026, Dr. Sherika Samarasinghe, Consultant Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician, currently serving at the Sports and Exercise Medicine Unit of the Sri Lanka Air Force. The briefing focused on athlete health, injury prevention, and medical preparedness during the Games.

An Anti-Doping Education and Learning (ADEL) session was conducted by the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency, led by the Director General, Dr. Shiromi Pilapitiya, along with the Deputy Director Education and Testing, Mr. Chamath Srinika. The session emphasized clean sport, anti-doping regulations, and athlete responsibilities.

A Safeguarding Awareness Session was delivered by IOC certified Safeguarding Officer, Ms. Hiruni Munasinghe, who is also the Deputy Manager International Relations at the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, and Coordinator of the NOC Sri Lanka Gender Equity Committee.

The Prevention of the Manipulation of Competitions (PMC) Awareness Session was conducted by Mr. Gobinath Sivarajah, Senior Sport Administrator at the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, IOC certified Safeguarding Officer, National Course Director, and the Single Point of Contact in Sri Lanka for PMC.

An interactive session was led by the Chairman of the Athletes’ Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Mr. Niluka Karunaratne, OLY, providing athletes an opportunity to engage, clarify concerns, and share perspectives.

Given that the games are being held in a coastal area, the programme also placed strong emphasis on athlete safety, particularly in relation to water-based risks. As part of this commitment, a comprehensive water safety awareness session was conducted by the Chef de Mission.

The 6th Asian Beach Games are scheduled to be held in Sanya, China from 22nd to 30th April 2026. The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka remains committed to ensuring that Team Sri Lanka is well prepared, informed, and supported to compete with excellence and integrity on the international stage.
