Asian Tennis Tour to debut in Sri Lanka

Colombo will play hosts to the opening series of the Asian Tennis Tour that will be hosted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association from the 9th -22nd of January.

Marking a fresh beginning to a busy year in the racket sport, the Asian Tennis Tour will be a significant milestone for Sri Lanka who will be playing hosts to such an event for the 1st time. An initiative by the Asian Tennis Federation, the ATT tour is set to provide the professional exposure to the Asian tennis players representing the 45 member nations.

The tournament will aim at giving the players in the Asian region the opportunity to gain more exposure and provide them game time to compete in the much tougher ITF and ATP circuits.

The Colombo leg will consist of four weeks of action and the 9th will kick start with the men’s division. The second week of action in the men’s category will commence on the 13th and it will be followed up by the women’s matches on the 16th. The second week and final week in the women’s division will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of January.

A total of $5,000 in prize money is up for grabs in each week of action and Sri Lanka will only be fielding three players in the Men’s draw. Top seeds in the Men’s singles, Yasitha De Silva, Madusha Wijesooriya and Dineshkanthan Thangarajah are set to play in the main draw of the first week along with the top-seeded players from Pakistan and India.
