Walawa supercross, the annual motor racing event organised by the Sri Lanka…

Ashan, who is the reigning best driver at Walawe Supercross and the National Champion of SLGT Cars up to 3500cc class, lowered the previous record by over a second which was held by Kushan Peiris where he clocked 53:647 at last year’s qualification. Ashan started behind Kushan last year before going on to winning both races in the class. Young Kushan who has been on Ashan’s case also looked good going through the Walawa track. Kushan is placed second in the grid with Ushan Perera who looked a little of who he was back during the 2016 season will be starting in the third spot on the grid. Aravinda Premadasa is in the 4th Place followed by Missaka Naveen, Tyrone Hendavitharana, Kaushalya Samarasinghe , Sjaad Zuhair , Kapila Nishantha and Ishraq Wahab.

Billed to be the fastest machines in the Sri Lankan racing arena, the SLGT final is going to be a thrilling affair if Kushan manages to get ahead of Ashan in the opening corner. With Walawe presenting a few fast corners and a tricky corner at the end, an early push will be required to prevent Ashan from running away with the lead.

The MX Racing up to 250cc will also be a very speedy affair with the Walawa track being largely a flat track.  The headline event will be keenly fought by the big names Gayan Sandaruwan, Evon Gurusinghe, Buddika Kasun and Sameera Premarathne who all looked in good shape during the practice runs. Evon Gurusinghe who is the reigning champion at Walawa will be the favorite as he looks very comfortable taking on the race in the wild. National Champion Ishan Dassanayake, who missed last year’s competition due to injury, was not present at practice and its not confirmed whether he will take part in the competition. Evon will not have an easy passage with the two soldiers, Buddika and Sameera in terrific form and the veteran Gayan Sandaruwan reportedly in his farewell season pushing for the top spot.
