The much-awaited Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship (APMC) 2025 made its inaugural entry into Sri Lanka, with the event successfully concluding at the Speed Bay Circuit in Bandaragama, Sri Lanka, recently. The competition offered a novel experience to motorsport enthusiasts on the island, and after a closely contested series, the team from the Philippines clinched the overall championship. Sri Lanka and Hong Kong, China emerged as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

The event was held under the patronage of Mr. Lung, FIA Vice President of Sport for the Asia Pacific region, and Mr. Valerio, FIA Secretary General for Sport. A total of 210 top talents from across the region competed in Cross Car Autocross, Auto Gymkhana, Karting Endurance, Karting Slalom, Karting Sprint, eSports iRacing, and eSports disciplines, representing 18 countries.
Sri Lanka’s top-ranked motor racing star, Ashan Silva, raced to a gold medal in the Cross Car Autocross event, thrilling the home crowd with his outstanding performance. In this remarkable victory, Ashan outpaced strong contenders from the Philippines and Malaysia, securing a commanding lead to take the top spot.
Emerging Sri Lankan talent Evan Samarajeewa helped elevate Sri Lanka on the medal table by clinching a gold medal in the Karting Slalom Junior category. In the same event, Shenuka Nithin Wijayasekara of Gateway College added a bronze medal to Sri Lanka’s tally, showcasing remarkable grit and determination on the track.
In addition, Tehan Amarasiri unluckily dropped to second place after a tight contest and secured a silver medal in the Karting Sprint Junior race.
The hosts had another jubilant moment in the Karting Slalom (Cadet) race as another of Sri Lanka’s rising talents, Azriel Munaweera, secured a silver medal to uplift the host to overall second position.
