Another thrilling edition of “Rotherham Circuit Meet – 2025” was held at the Katukurunda Racing Circuit in Kalamulla, Kalutara, on 17th August 2025. The experienced campaigner Ashan Silva was crowned as the best driver, while the 14-year-old motorbike racing star Chenuka Caldera stamped his class by winning the award for the best rider.
The Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR), with unparalleled expertise in crafting racing tracks and orchestrating flawless race events, was the main organiser of this extravagant and premier racing event.
After his success in the Mahameruwa 1st and 2nd rallycrosses and Walawa Supercross, Ashan continued his fine rhythm to dominate the elite motor car event, the SL GT Cars up to 3500cc. After a competitive couple of races in the morning and the evening sessions, Ashan became the undisputed champion and eventually emerged as the best driver of the meet. Further, Vishen Botheju was on Ashan’s tail throughout the entire race, waiting for an opportunity so he may capitalize on any mistake by Ashan, but did not have any favours from the front-running driver.
In the prestigious motorbike racing event, Group M – Super Sports 175 cc up to 250 cc (4T), the 14-year-old prodigy, Chenuka Caldera, came up with a better and bold performance to clinch the title after beating many experienced riders on the track. With this remarkable victory, Chenuka etched his name into Sri Lankan motorsport history by becoming the youngest rider to claim the prestigious “Best Rider Trophy”. After being beaten in the first race, he displayed his courage and determination to perform with exceptional skills, composure and control to win the first spot in the second race to clinch the coveted title.

Further, the Katukurunda racing track is identical because it is the only venue where you can witness a formula racing event, and in the Formula 1300 cc EFI – Race 02 (Kandos Challenge Trophy), experienced competitors Chandima Goonaratne and Aadam Junaid shared the glory after winning a race each.
Another highlight of the day was the angel of Sri Lankan motor racing, Hesali Nehansa Peiris, who managed to outclass her male competitors to win the title in the Group O – Over 100 cc up to 160 cc (4T) event. The 15-year-old talent had already won a title in India at the TVS RTR 200 meet and definitely will be a future prospect in the racing events for Sri Lanka.
