Former Sri Lanka Rugby President and veteran sports administrator, Asanga Seneviratne was appointed President of Sri Lanka Baseball at a Special General Meeting held on the 16th of November 2021.
Formerly elected as Vice-President, Asanga Senevirathne will take over the position vacated by Nissanka Senadhipathi. Mr. Senadhipathi took over Sri Lanka Baseball in October 2020, however, was unable to carry out any of his plans as the Covid-19 Pandemic crippled the sporting arena.
The new President of Sri Lanka Baseball aims to restart the sport in the country by hosting the Sri Lanka Baseball Knockout Championship from the 18 – 21 of November 2021.
Seneviratne currently serves as Chairman of the recently appointed Rugby Advisory Committee (RAC) and was also appointed to the board of Sri Lanka’s Colombo Stock Exchange. He is also the Vice-president of the National Olympic Committee.
A distinguished sportsman during his heyday, Seneviratne played Cricket and Rugby for S. Thomas’ College and captained the College Rugby team as well, going on to represent the Sri Lanka National team in Rugby and the Junior National Cricket team. He also captained CR & FC and the Outstations rugby team while at school.
Currently, he is an Exco member of Asia Rugby, a member of the NOC High-performance committee and it is a great honor and a privilege for Sri Lanka Baseball to have a person of this caliber at the helm of the organization.
