Sri Lanka’s white-ball captain Charith Asalanka and fast bowler Asitha Fernando have been ruled out of the upcoming tri-series involving Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, as both players will return home due to illness.
Team management has opted to withdraw the duo as a precaution to ensure they receive the necessary medical attention and adequate recovery time ahead of Sri Lanka’s upcoming international commitments.

With Asalanka unavailable, experienced all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been appointed stand-in captain for the tri-series. Meanwhile, promising young batter Pavan Rathnayake has been drafted into the T20I squad as a replacement.
Sri Lanka will now look to adapt quickly under Shanaka’s leadership as they gear up for an important series that will serve as preparation for upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
