The kick-off of the Mastercard Club Rugby League 2025/26 is a couple of weeks away, and in the meantime, Sri Lanka Army Sports Club has announced their well-experienced Sri Lanka national player Sudaraka Dikkumbura as their Captain.

Dikkumbura started his Rugby journey as a junior player when he was studying at Sri Rahula College, Katugastota, Kandy. Since then, his passion for the oval-shaped ball has never faded away, and Dikkumbura managed to sharpen his skills and stamina as a talented three-quarter player with solid power and pure pace. After ending his schooling career, he got a divine opportunity to join the Army Sports Club.

During his club career, Dikkumbura managed to perform really well, and his attacking mindset and tactical insight were a headache to many leading clubs in the field. Dikkumbura’s vibrant runs with magical side steps, chips and chases and accurate tackles were instrumental in many giant-killing operations launched by the soldiers during Club Rugby League. Finally, all of his pains and commitments paid off as he was selected to represent the National 7s team. After a few years, Dukkumbura’s unwavering performance and lightning speed earned him a position in the Sri Lanka XV’s outfit as a wing three-quarter.

This year, Dikkumbura has another loyal player of Army SC, Dhanilsha Vimanshana Dissanayake, as his deputy. The talented and powerful front-row forward, who is a past player of St Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, is also committed to uplifting the performance of the soldiers.

This year, the Army Sports Club will be coached by the greatest ever active Coach in Sri Lanka, the veteran, Sanath Martis. He is vastly reputed for his magical ability to transform an average side into a champion team. Past player of Army SC, Gayan Salinda, will be the Assistant Coach of the side, and he will look after the backs division of soldiers. The Assistant Coach for the forwards is yet to be announced.

Finally, the supporters of Army Sports Club are in a firm belief that the combination of Sudaraka Dikkumbura and Sanath Martis will produce some magic for the soldiers and will provide some hard times to all of the other clubs.
