In the closely contested cup final Army ‘A’ fought their way back after trailing, to make a remarkable come-back to win the Cup segment.

Thanuja Weerakkody opened the scoring for Navy ‘A’ as she glided passed the Army ‘A’ defense to score in the final. Navy ‘A’ was applying good pressure on the Army team but they failed to turn pressure into points. Right on the stroke of half time Weerasinghe scored for Army and so there was nothing to separate the teams at the half time break. (Army ‘A’ 5-5 Navy ‘A’)

Hemakumari made a powerful run as she barged her way through to score for Navy ‘A’ as they extended their lead to 10-5 2 minutes into the second half. Army did not let the early score hinder their progress as they scored two tries in quick succession to grab the lead in the game for the first time.

With time running out, Army ‘A’ center Perry made a 80m dash as she scored in the corner and handed Army ‘A’ the win in the game and with it the Women’s Inter Club Seven’s Cup championship. (Army ‘A’ 22-10 Navy ‘A’)
