The T20 Triangular Cricket Tournament played for the Anura Tennekoon Trophy as part of the Centenary Celebrations of the Big Club Grounds, commenced at S. Thomas’ College today (12th March).

In the first match of the day, S. Thomas’ College registered a 4-wicket win over Royal College. Batting first, the visitors posted 116/9 in the allotted 20 overs courtesy of Hirun Matheesha (30) and Shane Abeyrathne (28), who chipped in with useful knock.

Kavindu Dias was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he bagged 3 wickets for 22 runs. The Thomians faced some anxious moments in the run-chase but managed to cross over line in the last of over of the match with 4 wickets in hand.

Mithila Charles and Thisen Eheliyagoda who scored 35 and 24 respectively, were the main pillars of the hosts’ successful run-chase.

S. Thomas’ College registered a convincing win in the second match played today against Trinity College. Batting first, the hosts put on a commanding total – 172/5 on the board – on the back of half-centuries by Nathan Caldera and Akash Fernando.

Caldera stroked 77 runs off 48 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes, while Fernando hit 56 runs off 32 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes. In reply, the visitors posted only 92/7 in the allotted 20 overs.

S. Thomas’ College managed to book their place in the Final with these two impressive wins in the opening day of the tournament. The 3rdgame of the tournament, which will be played between Royal College and Trinity College tomorrow (13thMarch), will determine the opponents of S. Thomas’ College in the Final.
