Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has predicted Zinedine Zidane will become a “terrific manager” and revealed the Frenchman already has the ear of the Bernabeu players.

Zidane is currently employed as Ancelotti’s assistant at Madrid and the former AC Milan coach has outlined his importance in the dressing room.

Asked whether Zidane speaks to the players more than he does, Ancelotti replied: “Individually yes, because he knows them better. I don’t talk to them much.

“For example, I think that to talk a lot to those who don’t play a lot doesn’t make sense. A coach I had always said to me: “Carlo, you’re very important”, but never picked me.

“If you speak a lot to players, they lose respect for you. Zizou does it well. When he talks, they listen. They respect him.”

Former France and Madrid midfielder Zidane has recently been linked with the managerial posts at Monaco and Marseille and Ancelotti believes that, if he decides one day to make the step up from being an assistant, he will thrive.

“He has charisma,” Ancelotti added.

“He does his job very well. He will be a terrific manager.”
