Amla: Unlikely that Dale Steyn will be risked

South Africa captain Hashim Amla says the Proteas will have deal with the absence of fast bowler Dale Steyn as the visitors try to win the third Test against India, starting in Nagpur on Wednesday.

Steyn, the world’s best fast bowler has not recovered from a groin injury he picked up in the first Test and will sit out again as the tourists try and level the four-match series.

Although he is still rated as doubtful, and South Africa will give until the last minute to prove his fitness, Amla said it was unlikely that the paceman will be risked.

Amla told reporters on Tuesday: “Dale Steyn won’t probably play in this Test match. I don’t think his injury has recovered fully. Not having Dale in the team is a setback because not having the best bowler in the world is never a nice thing.

“But we have got to deal with it. We have got some good reserves. Hopefully, the guys who play will get a chance to stand out.”

The Proteas lost the first Test in Mohali, by 108 runs, while second match in Bangalore was washed due to rain with only one day of play possible.
