St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa blew away Prince of Wales by 8 wickets to win their 41st limited over encounter on 14th March at the Tyronne Fernando Stadium in Moratuwa.

It was the Sebastianites who opted to field first after winning the toss, a decision that paid immediate dividends as Adesh Almeida dismissed Palingu Perera in the very first over.

His new-ball partner followed up magnificently with a scalp off just his second delivery. The pair wreaked havoc as they reduced the Cambrians to 27 for 6 after nine overs.

Oshan De Silva offered some resistance, striking a quickfire 44 that included four boundaries and a maximum. He was supported briefly by Kavindu Cooray as the pair took their side towards a respectable total. However, the spinners continued to strike regularly, and the Cambrians were eventually bundled out for 116 in just the 25th over, with Almeida the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 38.

The Sebastianites, who began their reply after a rain delay with a revised target of 112, took their time in what was a straightforward chase, with the openers braving the new ball before stepping on the accelerator. It looked as though the pair would wrap it up before Meshone Ferdinando was bowled for 47, while Kaveesha Perera was run out for 40. Almeida capped off his brilliant performance with a quickfire 23 to take the Sebastianites over the line.
