Shanmuganathan and Maneesha combine once again, making it two wins in two

Sri Lanka U19s made it two wins out of two in the ACC Under-19s Asia Cup 2024 today (1st December), registering a commanding 131-run victory against Afghanistan U19s.

 Sri Lankan skipper Vihas Thewmika was fortunate enough to win the toss in batting-friendly conditions offered at the Sharjah Cricket stadium. and was not hesitant to have a bat first. Even though Sri Lanka lost their opener Dulnith Sigera in the first over wicket-keeper batter Sharujan Shanmuganathan and Sigera’s opening partner combined to put on a 100-run partnership for the 2nd wicket.

Perera returned to the pavilion after a well-made 53, while Shanmuganathan capitalized on the batter-friendly conditions to convert his start into a magnificent century. His innings included just seven boundaries, highlighting his excellent strike rotation.

Sri Lanka posted a total of 243 runs on the board, thanks to late-order cameos from Vimath Dinsara and Kavija Gamage.

With the ball in hand, it was Praveen Maneesha yet again who shorn for the Islanders. Maneesha ended up with figures of 3 for 16. Skipper Vihas Thewmika, Ranjithkumar Newton and Viran Chamuditha also joined the party with 2 wickets apiece.

With two wins under their belt, Sri Lanka currently leads Group ‘B’ and has one final game remaining against the Bangladesh U19s, scheduled for December 3rd at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
