A group of players from the team and the manager took the initiative to visit the Child Action Lanka child care center at Katukelle located in the city behind the Wembly film hall. Some Kandy players accompanied the group together with coach Sean Wijesinghe. The team was welcomed by the children who live and stay at the center with garlands they’ve made themselves which turned out to be garlands of rugby balls.

The players played around with the kids and spoke with everyone before they left to the Deiyyanwela playground to attend some fun activities together. The team also gave away toys and other stationery which they had brought with them.

The kids enjoyed themselves playing games while the players cheered them on. They later got into teams and  competed alongside the players.

The manager of the team, Louie Tolken speaking to ThePapare.com added these words on their kind gesture

“We are more involved in Charities as it helps whoever in need. We are glad because the children here are orphans and God knows what would have happened if they were let out in the streets, so we think that in helping them we are being better human beings.”

The team then moved on to the Nittawela stadium after spending around two hours with the kids, where they participated in a short practice session as preparation for tomorrow’s game against Kandy SC.

After the session they donated two jerseys for two young teams picked by the Kandy management. The team distributed the jerseys and then took photographs with everyone present. The young kids who were more interested in which size they wanted as they picked the jersey sizes with the players themselves graciously accepted the jerseys.

The Bahrain coach spoke a few words at the distribution as he said “ the jerseys are a gift from us to help you play as a team under one logo and thanked everyone present at the occasion and asked the lads to support them tomorrow in the big game against Kandy SC.”
