‘A’ Grade Tennis- Queens Open Ranking Tennis Tournament

The Queen’s Club Open Ranking Tournament is a tournament that carries the prestigious status of an ‘A’ grade tournament.

The tournament has grown from strength to strength during the past few years and is now considered to be one of the most eagerly awaited and anticipated events as far as the Sri Lankan tennis community are concerned.

This year’s tournament commenced on the 8th of March with the boys under 10, 12 and 16 qualifying rounds and the main draw matches for all the events are scheduled to take place over the course of the next two weeks.

A total number of over 250 participants are set to prove their worth in the following events at the 2014 Queens Open Tournament.

This year’s tournament is guaranteed to produce tennis of the finest quality as the Queen’s Club courts will be set ablaze by stars of the sport such as Davis Cup Player Dineshkanthan Thangarajah and former members of the Davis Cup team such as Rohan De Silva and Jayendra Wijesekera. The tournament will also showcase the talent of members of the 2014 Fed Cup team namely Amritha Muttiah, Kemalie Herath and Nethmi Waduge who are all set to battle it out for the women’s singles title. 

ThePapare was able to have a quick word with the tournament referee Dinusha Wijesuriya who stated that he feels humbled to be given the opportunity to undertake the responsibility of refereeing such an esteemed tournament. ‘The tournament is guaranteed to be a great success that will most importantly produce good tennis that will hopefully motivate more people to get involved with the sport as it is definitely a sport that is on the rise as far as our country is concerned’ he reiterated.
