The inaugural Aqua Vida; South Asia’s largest Beach Sports Festival will hit the shores of Negombo this Saturday (14th Nov) in what would be the beginning of a new sporting revolution.
South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) will be the main sponsor while three times Olympic Gold medalist and legendary Hungarian Waterpolo player Dr.Gergely Kiss will be the Brand Ambassador for the festival.
Aqua Vida Beach Sport Festival will be bringing together over 700 athletes in an exciting and fun-filled festival with live entertainment and activities. The beach sports festival will include a wide range of sports including – Beach Football, Beach Volleyball, Beach Waterpolo, Beach Handball, Beach Rugby and a Sea Swim.
The event is scheduled on the 14th of November at Jetwing Beach, in Negombo with over 10 teams in each of the sporting disciplines participating, marking the first ever Beach Waterpolo and Handball games to be played in Sri Lanka.
Awnee Razack the Chairman of the Organizing Committee said, “We wanted to create a Beach sports festival in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka is surrounded by beautiful sea and we must make use of this. This project based on team effort. Mainly wants to encourage people to take up sports.
“We do not have teams which do good in Beach Sports or any kind of beach sports festival and we believe this will be a new beginning of a long journey,” he went on to say.
“I am happy to be here in Sri Lanka once again. The one year project became a very strong friendship between Sri Lanka Waterpolo and me. I have very strong feeling we can do something nice. I strongly believe this festival can increase and become international,” the Olympic Champion Dr.Gergely Kiss added.
“SAGT is pleased to partner with Aqua Vida to promote Beach Games and provide a platform for the youth of the country to further develop their skills & talents,” Chief Executive Officer of South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT) Mr Erwin Haaze commented in announcing the sponsorship.
In closing Mr. Haaze wished that Aqua Vida Beach Games would grow from strength to strength, and will provide new opportunities for the Island’s rising sport stars of the future.

“This festival would be not only about the sport but to show and to help children bring out their swimming and waterpolo skills. Sri Lanka has the natural resources to start these sports unlike in Europe.
“Hope with me involved can help increase and go big in a few years’ time. Not only local but can expand into an international festival. Next step would be South Asian festival and build on from there.”
