Galle Gallants were crowned champions of the Lanka Premier League 2026 after defeating Jaffna Kings in the final played today (8th August) at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. The victory saw Galle Gallants lift their maiden LPL trophy after a commanding performance in the final.
After winning the toss, Jaffna Kings opted to bat first but struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Galle Gallants bowling attack. The Kings were restricted to 123 runs, with opener Kamil Mishara top-scoring with 41 off 32 deliveries, including five boundaries.
Galle Gallants’ bowling attack was led by Charith Asalanka and Eshan Malinga, who produced crucial spells at key stages of the innings. Asalanka’s off-spin and Malinga’s pace proved too much for the Jaffna batting lineup, with both bowlers claiming three wickets apiece.
Chasing 124 for the title, Galle Gallants made a confident start and remained in control for most of the chase. Opener Thomas Rogers provided a valuable contribution with 34 runs, while middle-order batter Dinura Kalupahana played an important hand with 31.
The Galle batting unit negotiated the Jaffna attack effectively and reached the target in the 16th over, losing just five wickets to complete a comfortable five-wicket victory.
For Jaffna Kings, Shakib Al Hasan and Traveen Mathew were the standout bowlers, claiming two wickets each, but they were unable to prevent Galle Gallants from completing the chase.
