St. Peter’s College made it three wins on the bounce after another bonus point victory in their first away game of the season. Playing against newcomers Prince of Wales College today (8th May) at the Air Force Grounds in Rathmalana.
The visitors got off to a quick start through their backs. Ashok Krishan was the beneficiary as he went over for two tries after some well worked moves. Rajit Geon converted one of them. (PoW 00-12 SPC)
The Peterites added another in the 18th minute when Nethshan Manthusha broke away down the right hand side, he was caught in a high tackle but did well to offload to Hashara Madugasge, who dotted down to continue his fine try scoring form.
They secured their bonus point a few minutes later after more great work from Manthusha brought them inside the red zone. Skipper Shenuka Perera was there in support to finish off the move. (PoW 00-22 SPC)
Jamal Wahab then produced a flash of individual brilliance as he pierced the gap in the Cambrian defence to perfection, before stepping past the last man to touch down under the posts. Krishan took over the kicking duties and was successful. (PoW 00-29 SPC)
On the brink of halftime, more good work from Manthusha helped the visitors add their sixth score. After receiving the ball from around 10 metres out, he did exceptionally well to stay on his feet. Dragging three defenders with him as he barged through for the try.

The Bamba Brigade got off to a fast start in the second half as well, with Manthusha linking up with Wahab to send the fly half on his way to touch down for his brace. Krishan converted.
The Peterites then went through an extremely scrappy phase, where they showed defensive vulnerability. Especially in their maul defence.
A Cambrian maul set from 5 metres out was brought down illegally by Madugasge, resulting in a yellow card being issued and a penalty try awarded to the home team. (PoW 07-41 SPC)
Just four minutes later, Revoke Perera joined the maul illegally and was given his marching orders. Prince of Wales College were awarded their second penalty try, and St. Peter’s College was reduced to thirteen men.

The Peterite defence pulled their socks up thereafter, preventing any further scores from the home team. Some good work from the backs up the other end saw the ball worked out wide to Manthusha, who went over for his hat trick and brought up the third consecutive 50+ score for the Bamba Brigade. (PoW 21-53 SPC)
What came soon after could be a crucial moment in the Peterite season as Nethshan Manthusha was issued a blue card when he went down after a no arms tackle from Tharin Silva. Silva saw yellow but the damage he caused could be a turning point in the season.
Shenuka Perera added his second score after the backs carried his side into the opposition red zone. With the defence scrambling he went over untouched right under the posts. Krishan added the extras.
With the full time whistle beckoning, and the Peterites on the attack, Shiras Perera sent out a long cut out pass to Aniq Kamil who put the icing on the cake for the visitors.
