Wesley College passed the litmus test against Science College with a superb 63-15 hammering on Saturday (7) at Havelock Park in their Dialog Schools Rugby season opener.
The game proved to be a real show of Double Blue power as the lads from Campbell Park piled up 9 tries in total to stamp their authority. These two teams last met in 2022 at the same venue, Wesley under Tharusha Jayaweera won 35-00. Science is searching for a win since their 2019 heroics at Ratmalana.
3 mins into the game Wesley scored with a Hamdan Shafraz try. Vice Captain Abdul Haadhi converted (7-0)
10th Min – Skipper Dilruwan Perera slotted a penalty for Science College showing great intent. (7-3) A few minutes later, Wesley’s Pawan Thiranagama (5) was sent to the sin-bin. However what transpired was brilliant as the ‘les blues’ scored 3 quick tries during this time.
Wesley half back Sharfaan Wadood, one of the smallest players in the park, fended off a few defenders and scored a brilliant try with Haadhi making no mistake with the kick. (14-07)

A minute later Hamdan Shafraz scored the bonus-point try with the lock forward powering his way through with sheer physical strength. Extras added by Haadhi (28-3)
31st min – Damitha Hettiarachchi scores the first try for Science to give a ray of hope with skipper Dilruwan Perera adding the extras. Just before halftime Wesley scored through their deputy skipper Abdul Haadhi, the playmaker converted his try (35-10)

- 42nd min – Wesley continued their momentum. Manuga Jayaweera scores the first try in the second half, Haadhi converts (42-10)
- 49th min – Keshara Rahul scores for Wesley, the kick, well Abdul Haadhi knows how to kick.
- 55th min – Deputy skipper Hashim Thabeeth scored under the post, Haadhi’s 100% kicking rate continued.
- 65th min – Manuga Jayaweera scores for Wesley with Fawaz Fawmy (13) kicking the extras to hit the nail in the coffin.
- 70th min – Udan Gamage (4) finally scored the consolation try for Science College in the very last passage of play. Gihan Yatawara handled the game as referee.
