Sri Lankan squash prodigy Ranliya Wood and Shariff Hakeem clinched the Open Women’s and Open Men’s titles respectively, at the Yeti Open Squash Championship 2025, which concluded at the Air Force Squash Complex in Ratmalana. Over 280 top-ranked and youth players participated for honors in this event, which was held from the 22nd of May to the 1st of June. Furthermore, this fixture is very important because it is considered the annual National Ranking Squash Tournament in Sri Lanka.
In the Women’s Open segment, Ranliya Wood emerged the champion by beating Adihithi Gunasekara of Ladies’ College in straight sets.
The experienced Airforce player Shariff Hakeem defeated Nevindu Lakman to clinch the Men’s Open 2025 title again in straight sets.
The event was organised by Sri Lanka Squash (SLS) and sponsored by Yeti, Sri Lanka’s leading isotonic drinks manufacturer. Sri Lanka Squash President Dhammika Wijesundara, Yeti Director Dr. Dilshan Balasuriya and a few other distinguished guests participated in the presentation ceremony.
Apart from the results, it is delightful to see such a large number of players (specially youngsters) taking the Squash court at the national level, even though Squash is still considered an emerging sport in Sri Lanka. These rising talents will definitely place Sri Lanka firmly on the global squash map, where about 20 million players are competing by representing 185 countries.
