The proceedings of Day 3 of the ASBC Asian Under-22 and Youth Boxing Championships 2025, organized by the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), concluded at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo, delivering a mixed bag of results for the hosts.
In the first bout, Tajikistan’s Dovud Makhkamov, who also competed in the 2023 World Boxing Championships, took on Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Orozbekov, a gold medalist at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The young Kyrgyz boxer landed a few timely punches on Makhkamov to claim victory in the U22 welterweight (67kg) category.

In the second fight, Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev faced Malaysia’s Mohamed Farid Bin Muhammad Ariff Aiman in another welterweight (67kg) bout. The Malaysian southpaw launched an exceptional early attack with fierce hooks, but Anarbayev successfully defended and ultimately prevailed on points.
Sri Lanka’s Vimarshana Jayasinghe Ambarapola was the first local boxer of the day, facing Saudi Arabia’s Esmail Alqassimi in the next welterweight (67kg) encounter. Although the Sri Lankan boxer was energetic and aggressive, many of his punches missed the target. In contrast, the Saudi boxer landed several accurate blows, resulting in two referee counts against the Sri Lankan. Alqassimi secured a comprehensive victory.
In the next bout, Tajikistan’s Murodjon Ashuraliyev took on Saudi Arabia’s Majed in the light middleweight (71kg) category. The Tajik boxer dominated with electrifying punches and won unanimously.

Malith Bandara was the next Sri Lankan hopeful, facing Kazakhstan’s Agazhan Kadyr in the light middleweight (71kg) category. However, the Kazakh boxer was exceptional with powerful jabs that led to two referee counts in the first round. Unable to withstand the onslaught, the Sri Lankan had to concede the fight, delivering a major blow to Sri Lanka’s medal hopes.
Sri Lanka’s promising medal contender, Usaith Yazmin Mohommed, took on Saudi Arabia’s Nayif Almowallad in the middleweight (75kg) category. The Sri Lankan Elite National Champion dominated the first round, using his height advantage to keep his opponent at bay. In the middle stages, he launched a relentless attack with accurate jabs, while the Saudi boxer, resorting to wild swings, ended up exhausted. The home crowd was jubilant as Usaith secured at least a medal finish, regardless of the outcome of his future bouts.
Next, Sri Lanka’s Keshan Sandeepa Bandara fought New Zealand’s Roman Viney in the cruiserweight (86kg) category. The experienced New Zealander dominated with superior technique, and eventually, the Sri Lankan corner threw in the towel to end the bout.
In the women’s featherweight (57kg) category, Sri Lanka’s Kajinthini Loganathan faced India’s experienced boxer Nancy. Using her height advantage, the Indian dominated the bout and advanced to the next round.
In the women’s lightweight (60kg) category, Kazakhstan’s Anar Tursynbek went up against India’s Shivani. Tursynbek outclassed her opponent with ease and eliminated her from the competition.
In the final bout of the day, Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion, Uldana Taubay, faced Vietnam’s Tran Thi Tuyet Tran in the women’s U22 welterweight (66kg) category. Taubay launched a relentless attack in the first round and concluded the fight in the second round after a referee stoppage following a count.
