Former Sri Lanka Test captain Hashan Tillakaratne has resigned from his post as the head coach of Sri Lanka Women’s national cricket team.

Tillakaratne who took up the head coach role on the 1st of June 2021, led Sri Lanka Women’s team to the final of recently concluded Asia Cup where they were defeated at the hands of India by 8 wickets in Bangladesh.

Interestingly, his resignation comes with just 4 months away from the start of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 which will be held in South Africa.

Following his resignation, Tillakaratne has accepted the head coach post of Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team.

1996 World Cup winner Tillakaratne has held several coaching positions with Sri Lanka Cricket. Apart from being the head coach of Sri Lanka Women’s team, he had worked as the head coach of Sri Lanka U19 team and batting coach of Sri Lanka Emerging team. During the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League, he worked as the head coach of Kandy Tuskers franchise team.
