Suresh Subramaniam re-elected as NOC President

Suresh Subramaniam was re-elected as the President of the National Olympic Committee for the second four-year term in office when he defeated his opponent Maj. Gen. Palitha Fernando by 9 votes at the NOCSL Elections held at the Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium on Tuesday.

Subramaniam received 21 votes to Fernando’s 12 votes where 35 national sports associations affiliated to the NOCSL.

The four Vice-Presidents posts were won by Kanchana Jayaratne, who received 20 votes from Palitha Fernando’s faction, and Nilu Jayathileke (20 votes), Joseph Kenny (19) and Suranjith Premadasa (19) from Subramaniam’s camp.

Maxwell de Silva also retained his position as General Secretary receiving 23 votes against his rival Mohan Wijesinghe’s 10 votes.

The Treasurer’s post went to Gamini Jayasinghe from Subramaniam’s camp who defeated Ajith Kumara Siyambalapitiya 23 votes to 10.

The Assistant Secretary’s and Assistant Treasurer’s posts were uncontested and were retained by Chandana Liyanage and Shirantha Peiris respectively.

The Committee Members elected were: Ruwan Alahakoon (23 votes), Sarath Hewavitharana (22 Votes) and Neil Perera (22 Votes).
