Another Pre-Quarter Final Playoff of the Singer U19 Division I L/O Cricket tournament 2019/20 took place today (1st March) as the traditional encounter between St. Anne’s College and St. Benedict’s College ended in favor of the later.
Dharmasoka College made it to the Pre-Quarter Final of the 50-over tournament after missing out to reach the knockouts of the 2-day tournament by just a tiny margin. Their 94-run win against St. Sebastian’s College also means that the Moratuwa boys are out of both competitions after they were knocked out of the 2-day tournament by Nalanda College last week. The star for Dharmasoka College was once again their skipper, star all-rounder Lohan Aroshana. Lohan excelled with both bat and ball scoring 61 and picking up 2 wickets. The boys from Ambalangoda will now meet Nalanda College in the Pre-Quarter Final.
With the advantage gained on day 1, St. Benedict’s cruised to a win over St. Anne’s on the 2nd day in Kurunegala. Vihanga Ruwanara Nanayakkara and Ashen De Soyza helped them earn 143-run 1st innings lead before their spinners combined to restrict the hosts for 147 in the 2nd innings.
