Sri Lanka to face UAE in 1 st game of the Asian Netball Championship

The groupings for the 10th Asian Netball Championship, which is set to take place from the 31st of July to the 7th of August in Thailand, have been released by the Asian Netball Federation.

The tournament will feature the top 10 teams in Asia, who will compete in 2 groups in the 1st round of competition.

Defending Champions Singapore is in Group A, alongside Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Maldives while Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Brunei, Japan, Afghanistan and the UAE will compete in Group B.

Sri Lanka will play its 1st game against the UAE on the opening day of competition while their toughest challenge of the 1st round will be when they lock horns with Malaysia on the 3rd of August.

The top 2 teams from each group will proceed to the semi-final stage on the 6th of August where the table topper from group A will take on the 2nd place finisher from Group B in the 1st semi-final while the top team in Group B will take on the 2nd place team from Group A in the 2nd semi-final. The grand final will take place on the 7th of August.

As of now, an 18 member Sri Lankan squad has begun training under head coach Deepti Alwis. The trial to select the final 12 member squad is scheduled to be held on the 7th and 8th of this month.

July 31st – Sri Lanka vs UAE
August 1st – Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan
August 2nd – Sri Lanka vs Japan
August 3rd – Sri Lanka vs Malaysia
August 4th – Sri Lanka vs Brunei
