The 71st Battle of the Golds between St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales College ended in a draw today at De Soysa International Cricket Stadium in Moratuwa.
After being 3 for 53 at stumps on day one, Cambrians came out to bat on the second day expecting a better batting display to rescue the innings but St. Sebastian’s bowlers were too good for them as they lost 4 wickets for 86 runs in the first session of the day.

The vice-captain of Prince of Wales College showed some resistance with the bat scoring a classy half-ton, but it wasn’t enough to go past the opposition score as the Cambrians were bowled out for 174 handing an 80-run lead for St. Sebastian’s College.
The left-arm spinner Kalana Sandeep was the pick of the bowlers for St. Sebastian’s College as he bagged 4 wickets for 30 runs. St. Sebastian’s College began their second innings 80 runs ahead and got a good start once again putting 34 runs for no wicket at the end of the second session of the day.

After the tea break, St. Sebastian’s College accelerated the run-scoring and declared their innings at 167 for 2 setting a target of 248 to chase for the Cambrians. Yashan Avishka and Sukitha Prasanna batted well to notch up half-centuries for St. Sebastian’s College.
Prince of Wales College was 17 for no wicket when umpires called stumps on day two as both teams had to settle for a draw in the 71st Battle of the Golds.
