Unbeaten centuries from Revan Kelly and Chathura Milan handed St. Joseph’s College and Seenigama Combined Schools wins over Jaffna Central College and Up Country Combined Schools respectively in the 5th Murali Harmony Cup 2016 today.

In other games that took place today, Kingswood College made easy work of Mannar Vavuniya Combined Schools beating the latter by 65 runs while Royal College beat Jaffna Combine Schools by 8 wickets.

Zahira College were handed a surprise 5 wicket loss by Monaragala Combined Schools as Kaluthara Maha Vidyalaya beat St. Aloysius by 9 wickets and Nalanda College beat K & M Combined Schools by 56 runs. Mahinda College beat Trinco-Batti Combined Schools by 27 runs in a close contest rather than what it looked on the score card.

In the women’s segment of the Murali Cup Nittabuwa Ladies beat Shakthi Ladies at Mankulam by 45 runs and Matale Ladies beat FOG-Seenigama Ladies by 2 wickets in the most closely contested game of the day.

St. Joseph’s vs Jaffna Central College

St. Joseph’s College spearheaded by Revan Kelly and Jehan Daniel took Joes to a reasonable total of 187 for the loss of just 2 wickets in 20 overs. Revan Kelly scored a magnificent 101 not out while Jehan Daniel managed a blistering 28 ball 67 for Joes.

In reply the boys from the North failed to reach their target as they fell 32 runs short. Jehan Daniel and Sachitha De Silva shone with the ball picking 4 wickets between them. Srikantharajah Kowthaman managed 38 with the bat while Vijiliyas Dinojan made 34 for Jaffna Central College.

Seenigama Combined Schools vs Up Country Combined Schools

Magnificent century from Chatura Milan propelled Seenigama Combined Schools to a massive 120 run win. Batting first Chahura Milan’s 104 helped Seenigama Combined Schools to a mammoth 231 for the loss of just 2 wickets in 20 overs.

Chathuranga was the only batsman to have an impact on the Up Country Combined Schools chase in otherwise a rather one sided game.

Kingswood College vs Mannar Vavuniya Combined Schools

An all-round effort from Kingswood College guided the boys from the hill country to a 65 run win over Mannar Vavuniya Combined Schools. Even though Kingswood were bowled out for a below par 114 they managed to make up for it with the ball dismissing Mannar Vavuniya Combined Schools to a dismal score of 49.

Jaffna Combined Schools vs Royal College

Royal College made easy work out of Jaffna Combined Schools, winning by 8 wickets. Batting first Jaffna Combined Schools were bowled out for just 81 runs in 16.1 overs. Shinning with the ball for Royal College, Abhishek Perera (2/8), Charuka Hatharasinghe (2/11) and Ganith Sandeepa (2/18) all picked 2 wickets each.

Royal made easy work of their target, guided by Himesh Ramanayake’s unbeaten 35 reached their target for the loss of just 2 wickets. Opening batsman Ronuka Jayawardene made 25 as Kavindu Mdarasinghe’s unbeaten 12 lead Royal to victory.

Monaragala Combined School sprung a surprise as they beat Zahira College by 5 wickets. Batting first Zahira College were bowled out for just 61 runs in 16.4 overs.  Kavishka Dinesh was the star with the ball bagging 3 for 12 to dismiss Zahira for cheap.

Monaraga Combined, driven by Indika Nuwan’s 26 manage to reach their target in just 14.2 overs losing 5 wickets.

Kaluthara Maha Vidyalaya got the better of St Aloysius, winning by 9 wickets. Kaluthara Maha Vidyalaya dismissed Aloysius for a cheap 77 within just 18.3 overs. Dishan Lakshitha (3/7) and Shakila Akalanka (3/23) were the chief destroyers running through the Aloysius batting.

Kaluthara Maha Vidyalaya propelled by unbeaten scores from Nadeera Dilshan (29) and Chathumina Silva (11) reached their target for the loss of just a solitary wicket.

Nalanda College steered by Dinidu Wijewardana’s (59) half century posted a below par total of 134 in their allotted 20 overs. Nalanda Bowlers did not disappoint with the ball dismantling K & M Combined School for just 78 runs.

Dasun Senevirathna was the pick of the bowlers for Nalanda picking 3 wickets for just 6 runs while Kasun Sandaruwna made a rare feat picking 2 wickets for no runs and Umeksha Dilshan bagged 2 for 19.

Batting first the Nittabuwa Ladies managed 120 in 15 overs as the game was cut down by 5 overs due to bad weather. Chasing, the target of 121 Shakthi Ladies faced a tough task and eventually succumbed to the Nittabuwa Ladies falling short by 45 runs.

In the most closely contested game of the day Matale Ladies were crowned victorious beating FOG-Seenigama Ladies in the last ball of the match. Batting first FOG-Seenigama Ladies managed a rather competitive 133 in 15 overs.

Matale Ladies reached their target in the final ball of the game. Deepika Ratnayake was the architect of the win as she made a valuable contribution batting in the middle order. Sathya Sandeepani picked 3 for 23 but failed to defend the scored.
