The 40th National Squash Championship commenced on the 28th of January and will see the two major finals, the Women’s and Men’s battles tomorrow (31st) at the SSC Squash courts.
Originally the 40th Nationals were to be concluded in 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament was pushed to January of 2021 to exercise proper medical and safety guidelines in order to conduct a successful tournament.
This version sees a similar showdown as returning champions, Ravindu Laksiri and Fathoum Issadeen take on yet another National final. Laksiri is no stranger to the National title with his 7 consecutive wins until the last National version and will return to take on his trusty Doubles partner Shameel Wakeel for a shot at his 8th title.
Fathoum Issadeen is a household name in the Squash arena, with countless international accolades to her name. She is the reigning champion in the Women’s field and will take on Junior star Chanithma Sinaly in the final tomorrow.
