Junior Squash Nationals – Day 2 sees two Royalists through to U19 Final

Druvinka Perera and Methmal Wood are set to battle it out at the 30th Junior National Championship in the Boys Under 19 category final while Sameera Deen and Chanithma Sinaly will face off in the final of the Girls’ Under 19 category, after winning their respective semi-final matches on the second day of the competition at the Air Force squash court, Rathmalana.

In the Under 19 Boys’ category, it was Druvinka Perera of Royal College, defending champion in the same category, who defeated H Balasuriya to book a spot in the final. His opponent in the final and the school mate Methmal Wood won his semifinal against DHT Randina in a thrilling five setter to enter the grand finale of the 30th Junior National Squash Championship.

In the Under 19 Girls’ Category, the first semifinal was won by Sameera Deen against Y Abeyasundera while the second semifinal was won by Chanithma Sinaly against Y Kurruppu.

RI Wood, NS Ranathunga, A Gunasekara, SL Siriwardana, KS Silva, KRM Fernando, A Amarasinghe, DV Wanasingha, DD A bhayasinghe, NA dias, HK Perera, MM Weerasinghe, MB Samaranayake, PLSO Jayawardna, DS Balasuriya, AD Samaranayaka all advanced to the second round in the Under 13 Girls’ category, while UDS Nawanga, L Keegal, WADS Wickramasinghe, SL Siriwardana, L Konara, SKNM Chandrasekara, YM Elvitigala, T Iyngaran entered the quarterfinal round in the Under 15 Girls’ Novices Category.
