A 25 member pool was selected for training ahead of the 5th Asian Schools’ Boys Volleyball Championship in Isfahan, Iran.

The selection trials were held at the Sports Ministry Indoor Stadium at Independence Square for the tournament which would be held from the 22nd to the 31st of August.

The 25 players comprised of 8 ‘High Attackers’, 5 ‘Setters’, 8 ‘Quick Attackers’ and 4 ‘Libero’ players.

Dammisara National School, Naththandiya was represented by 7 players while St.Joseph Vaz College, Wennapuwa and Rajasinghe Maha Vidyalaya, Ruwanwella had 5 players each. There were 4 players from Davisamara Maha Vidyalaya, Seeduwa and three from Maris Stella College, Negombo. One player from Rajasinghe Central College, Hanwella completed the 25.

The players were selected by a well experienced selection panel which included former South Asian Games Gold Medalists Udeni Priyadarshani and Deepika Kumari. It also included former Sri Lanka players Jayathilaka Bandara, Wimalajeewa Mahindarathna and Ajith Pushpakumara.

Chaminda Lakshman of Davisamara Maha Vidyalaya was appointed as the Head Coach. He was also the coach of the Sri Lanka U19 team which was placed 9th in the 11th Asian Boys’ U19 Volleyball Championship. Tharaka Rathnaweera was appointed as the Assistant coach.

18 member pool for Asian Senior Men’s Championship

The Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has selected a strong 18 member pool..

The Coaches were selected by a panel which included former Sri Lanka coach Kumara Wendakoon, Lal Dissanayake, Shriya Pathirage and K.S.N.Alwis.

The selection process was overseen by Education Ministry Special Sports Director Manjula Kariyawasam and Sri Lanka Schools’ Volleyball Federation President Lal Dissanayake and Secretary Ranthilaka Jayaweera.
