The Sri Lanka Schools Karate team will be flying to Malaysia to compete at the 20th Milo International Karate Championship 2019. The tournament will be held from the 5th – 7th July at the Malaysia Titiwangsa Indoor Stadium.

The sport of Karate is fast growing in Sri Lanka, especially in the schools’ format. Attracting thousands of players from across the island, 32 of the best have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at this year’s Milo International Karate Championship.

The tournament is organized by the Malaysia Schools Karate Do Association while coordinating the Lankan team was the sole operation of the Sri Lanka Schools Do Association, along with special permission from the education minister. 

The 2019 Sri Lanka Team will host 18 boys and 12 girls this year with a healthy combination of experienced and talent in the mix.

Lithara Dihansa Perera of Visakha Vidyalaya will captain the girls’ team. She is an experienced senior campaigner and has represented Sri Lanka at the 2018 Asian Games. She also has many National and National Schools’ titles under belt with other international appearances in her career.

Vimukthi Rathnayake of Gampaha Bandaranaike will take up responsibilities as captain of the boys’ team. He too is a national team player and has donned national colours at the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.
