Under 17 Schools’ Cricket Tournament

The ‘Singer Trophy’ Under 17 division one inter-schools cricket tournament 2016 will start in mid-May.

The tournament will feature 75 teams competing in 10 groups. The competition is organized by Sri Lanka Schools’ Cricket Association along with Singer Sri Lanka PLC. The tournament will be played in the 50-over format according to ICC rules and regulations.

Last year, Ananda College, led by Sammu Ashan, thrashed Isipathana College by 151 runs in the final to claim the championship.

After the completion of the first-round, 32 teams will qualify for the second round which will also be played on a league basis in 8 groups. The winner and runner-up of those 8 groups will then advance to the knock-out stage of 16. The final stages of the tournament are expected to be played in August.

35 teams will participate in the division-two tournament which will also commence in May. Nalanda College (B) won the championship last year and the runner-up team Wadduwa Central College was promoted to the division one this year. The same format will be used in the division two tournament as well.
