Gamage makes headlines with a captain’s century for Rahula

Rahula College took firm control in the 14th battle of the Golden Lions played at the P. Sara Oval against Dharmapala College, posting a commanding first-innings total of 345/7 declared in 80 overs on the opening day.

Rahul College skipper Sadew Gamage starred with a brilliant 114 while Minuga Lakvidu remained unbeaten on 70*. Contributions from Sasinu Battage (48) and Pramuditha Nawanjana (40) further strengthened Rahula’s position.

For Dharmapala, Anuhas Mihiran and Nisalitha Sandiw picked up two wickets each but struggled to contain the opposition.

In response, Dharmapala College found themselves in deep trouble at 47/5 in just 16 overs by the end of the day’s play. Nisalitha Sandiw and Yomal Daniel were the only batters to show some resistance, scoring 22 and 15, respectively. Rahula’s bowling attack, led by Uchitha and Sasinu Battage (made early inroads, leaving Dharmapala with an uphill battle heading into Day 2.
