The 42nd edition of the National Sports Festival 2016 culminated yesterday (07th) with the Women’s and Men’s Badminton finals being played at the Sri Lanka Badminton Association’s Indoor Courts with players from the Western Province Women’s and Men’s teams dominating proceedings.
The Women’s competition opened up with the first round of the semi-finals being played between the teams from the Southern and North Western Provinces with the players from the Southern Province winning by 3 games to 0. The 2nd semi-final between the Central and Western Provinces was won by the Western team, also with a score of 3 games to one.
In the final the Western Province Women’s team dominated the team from the Southern Province, winning by 3 games to 0.
In the semi-final encounters, the Men’s Team from the Western Province defeated their opponents from the North Western Province, attaining a score of 3 games to 0 whilst the team from the Southern province defeated the team from Central province also garnering a score of 3-0. Western Province emerged victorious in the finals.
