Directors of Sports of Nine Provincial Education Ministries have made objections to the impending appointment of Anil Weerasinghe to the newly created post of Director of Sports Development of the Ministry of Education.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Education, the Directors attached to Education Ministries of nine provinces have questioned credentials of Weerasinghe to hold such a vital position.

“We all believe that creating a post of Director of Sports Development in the Ministry of Education is only fitting. In the meantime it should be noted that such a vital position should be held by a qualified individual,” the nine directors have mentioned in their letter addressed to the Minister of Education.

They have alleged that Weerasinghe does not possess necessary qualifications.

Alleging that Weerasinghe does not perform any task even at the school he is attached to currently, the nine directors have pointed out that he lacks experience in administration and has not even held a teacher instructor post.

Meanwhile the provincial education officials have admitted that his only qualification is to have held the secretary position of the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Association.

When contacted on this regard Weerasinghe said that he wished not to make comments.
