Unbeaten St. Joseph’s record 4th win

Here’s a roundup of the games concluded in the Singer U17 Inter-School Cricket Tournament 2018.

St. Joseph’s College Colombo recorded their 4th win in the first round of the Singer Trophy Under 17 Division I Inter Schools Cricket tournament yesterday beating Sri Sumangala College Panadura by 176 runs at Darley road.

Having batted first, the Joes managed to make 253 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Shevan Rasool and Dunith Wellalage top scored with 54 and 52 runs each. Sri Sumangala were dismissed for just 77 runs in 37.2 overs. Miranga Wickramage and Lakshan Gamage picked up 2 wickets each for the Joes.

St. Joseph’s: 253/8 in 50 overs (Shevan Rasool 54, Dunith Wellage 52, Johanne de Zylva 44, Dineth Jayakody 30, Mihiranga Fernando 4/33, Thrana de Silva 3/27)

Unbeaten Mahinda College Galle recorded their 3rd win as they beat Vidyaloka College Galle at Rathgama by 10 runs. Batting first, Mahinda College could only manage 167 runs before being bundled out in 48 overs. Vidyaloka came ever so close to the target, piling up 157 runs but couldn’t hold their nerve in the latter part of the game and fell short by 10 runs.

Mahinda: 167 in 48 overs (Navod Paranavithana 62, Kaushitha Sankesh 34, Kaveesha Malliyawadu 21, Kosala Udayanga 12, Dilshan Kavinda 2/8, Nadeera Ishan 2/14)

Piliyandala Central College beat St. John’s College Panadura by 3 wickets at Piliyandala. Chasing a target of 175 Piliyandala Central made it home in 41.3 overs as Ruchira Adhikari remained unbeaten on 41. Having batted first, St John’s managed 175 for 9 wickets in 50 overs with Abishek Sanjaya and Maleesha Gunawardana scoring 44 and 42 respectively.

Isipathana College Colombo beat Royal College Colombo by 4 runs at Reid Avenue in a cliff hanger. Isipathana could only managed 160 runs having batted first after winning the toss. However, Royal made things difficult for themselves, going into a shell in the chase. For Isipathana, Ravindu Rathnayake and Isuru Sandamal chipping in with 44 and 31 runs each. In the chase it was only Ahan Sanchitha who made a hefty contribution, scoring 78 runs. Kavindu Bandara picked up 5 wickets to dampen Royal’s hopes.

In the other matches played St. Anthony’s College Kandy beat Sandalanka Central College by 7 wickets at Sandalankawa and Bandaranayake College Gampaha beat S. de S. Jayasinghe Central College Dehiwala by 4 wickets at Dehiwala.
