Six matches in the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Two Day Cricket Tournament 2019/20 were played today across the island.

St. Peter’s College, Colombo vs St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa 

The off-spinner Ruvin Senevirathne starred with the ball by taking a match bag of 11 wickets for 74 runs, as St. Peter’s College defeated St. Sebastian’s College by 10 wickets in their traditional encounter which concluded today at St. Sebastian’s College Grounds in Moratuwa.

Royal College, Colombo vs St. Joseph’s College, Colombo  

Royal College managed to take first innings points against St. Joseph’s College in their Group A encounter, which ended in a draw today at Royal College Grounds in Colombo. Shevon Daniel (99) of St. Joseph’s College and Isiwara Dissanayaka (94) of Royal College played brilliant knocks but missed out well-deserved centuries. In addition to this, Sheran Fonseka scored half centuries in both innings (62 & 53*) for the visitors.

The Group A encounter between Mahinda College and D.S. Senanayake College ended in a draw today at SLAOC International Cricket Stadium in Dombagoda. However, the first innings points went to D.S. Senanayake College, thanks to the brilliant century made by Abishek Liyanarachchi.

Trinity College registered a comprehensive innings victory over Zahira College in their Group D encounter, which concluded today at Zahira College Grounds in Colombo. The all-round skills of Abhishek Anandakumar stood out as he stroked a fine half-ton (78) with the bat and picked up a match bag of 10 wickets for 64 runs with the ball.

The left arm spinner Nimnaka Jayathilaka starred with the ball, claiming a match bag of 11 wickets for 60 runs as St. Anthony’s College registered a convincing 9-wicket victory over St. Anne’s College in their Group B encounter which ended today at St. Anthony’s College Grounds in Kandy.

Nalanda College, Colombo vs Gurukula College, Kelaniya  

The Group C encounter between Nalanda College and Gurukula College commenced today at Nalanda College Grounds in Colombo. The hosts’ skipper won the toss and chose to bat first but a poor batting display restricted them to just 135 runs. The off-spinner Rashmika Mewan dismantled the hosts, taking a 6-wicket haul for just 23 runs. 

In reply, the visitors were even worse with the bat as they made only 93 runs for their first innings. Mahima Weerakoon and Chamodya Rajapaksha were the star performers with the ball for the hosts as they picked up 3 wickets apiece. The match will continue tomorrow for day two.
