Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team’s head coach Hemantha Devapriya has resigned, with immediate effect.

Former wicketkeeper-batsman was appointed in October 2016 and was contracted up until October this year

“Whilst thanking Devapriya for his services, SLC will start the process of engaging a new coach to take the women’s team forward’’ said Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.

The coaching staff came under heavy criticism after they lost against Thailand Women in the recently concluded Women’s Asia Cup in Malaysia.

Sri Lanka Women’s team led by Shashikala Siriwardene managed to beat the eventual winners, Bangladesh Women’s team but lost to India, Pakistan and Thailand.
