Sri Lanka to participate at Asia Deaf Cricket Cup 2017

A talented team of 15 players who form the Sri Lankan Deaf Cricket Team have been given an impetus by Cricket Aid, which will sponsor the team’s visit to India to participate in the upcoming 3rd Asia Deaf Cricket Cup 2017, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad.

The team which participated in the same tournament in 2012 in Pakistan emerged as Runners Up. The team also participated in the 1st T-20 Asia Cup which was held in Pakistan and clinched 3rd place while the host country Pakistan emerged as champions of the game.

Hemajith Kumara, Secretary to the Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Association said that the association was committed to uplifting leather ball cricket among the deaf community in the country.

Cricket Aid, the only charitable arm of Sri Lanka Cricket is committed to assisting differently-abled members of the society. Earlier this month, Cricket Aid also sponsored the visually handicapped Sri Lankan team to participate in the World Cup tournament in India.

“As a governing board for cricket in Sri Lanka, it gives us a sense of pride to know that we have a talented team who are determined to clinch this title,” President of Sri Lanka Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala said.

Cricket Aid, the charitable arm of SLC has extended its support for this team to travel to India and participate in this tournament. The President added that it is our responsibility to assist people who are differently-abled as they too are part of the same society.
