Coming off a dominant performance in the group stages, beating Chinese Taipei 137-5 and India 101-29, Sri Lanka showed no signs of slowing down in the tournament, taking on a strong Singapore team.

The hosts had the better of the first few couple of exchanges, going into a 7-4 lead within the opening 5 minutes of the game. However, thanks largely to Tharjini Sivalingam’s impeccable shooting, the visitors clawed their way back to claim an 18-12 lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

Sri Lanka carried the momentum into the 2nd quarter, racing to a 28-18 lead. The visitors’ Goal Attack Hasitha Mendis hardly got a shot at goal as the passes to Sivalingam rained in. The Lankan legend hardly put a foot wrong, putting up a characteristically accurate display.

Singapore fought back during the latter part of the half, as Sindhu Nair replaced Chen Lili at Goal Keeper, scoring a few back-to-back goals. But Sri Lanka kept a hold on the lead at half time, with the scores on 37-28 (19-16).
