(ThePapare Basketball Championship 2017, Colombo, Sri Lanka). The final quarter final in the girls’ category was worked off between Holy Family Convent (HFC) and Visakha Vidyalaya (VV) at Gateway College Rajagiriya. HFC continuing their form eased passed the Visakhians 49-07.
As the game started HFC obtained first possession of the ball and began to dominate from the first minute itself, getting in a few consecutive shots and taking an early lead. HFC managed to get through the VV defense by passing around the perimeter and hitting the gaps. On the defensive side of things, HFC and VV both maintained a man to man defense.
Throughout the first half, HFC had a well-rounded offensive side, collecting the majority of rebounds with a high shot accuracy and they used their speed to their advantage. VV on the other had trouble getting their shots in as they managed to add only 5 points as the first half ended. Half Time scores read, 21-05 favoring HFC.
As the second half began HFC moved into a full court press so it was easy for them to intercept many of the passes of the opposition. During the half, HFC again regained their dominance and increased the deficit while Visakha struggled to get past the HFC defense zone. HFC was able to add basket after basket but throughout the half Visakha added only 2 points. In the final few minutes HFC victory was assured and the game ended 49-07.
