Sport Minister bars Thilanga Sumathipala from SLC

A special directive has been issued by the Sports Minister Hon. Harin Fernando, preventing former Sri Lanka Cricket President Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala from holding any position at Sri Lanka Cricket, pending inquiry to investigate and report within a one-month period.

Basically, the gazette will forbid or exclude Mr. Sumathipala from participating, sitting or voting in any meeting of any committee, exercise discharge and performs of any powers, functions and duties as an Office Bearer or immediate President or from participating as or representing Sri Lanka Cricket for one month.

Sri Lankans with betting interests to be barred from cricket body

In a letter to the Sri Lanka cricket governing body, the minister has also stated that he has appointed a three-member investigation panel following a complaint received by Piliyandala Town sports club. 

The panel which includes Dhammika Muthugala – Director General (Development Sports Department), Shiromi Ranwaka – Sports Ministry Legal Officer and retired Air Force officer S.D. Piyadasa will determine whether Mr. Sumathipala could continue to hold office in line with the regulations of the National Association of Sports Regulations and to report back to him within a month.
