Six Sri Lankans including Seekkuge and Asela picked for BPL

The player draft for the 6th Bangladesh Premier League was held on the 28th of October including 165 local and 365 foreign players across 17 countries.

Among the 6 Sri Lankans who were picked during this draft, was experienced fast bowler Lasith Malinga as Khulna Titans, coached by Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardena, added Malinga from category A.

Malinga also worked with Jayawardena at the Mumbai Indians as a bowling mentor during the last Indian Premier League season. Jayawardena was the Head Coach of Mumbai Indians during the time.

Left-arm seamer, T20 specialist Isuru Udana, who ended as the highest wicket taker in the recently concluded Afghanistan Premier League was picked by Rajshahi Kings. They used their first overseas-player quota to pick him.

Explosive batsmen and very useful bowlers, Thisara Perera and Dasun Shanaka were picked by Comilla Victorians and Chittagong Vikings respectively.

National discards, Soldiers Asela Gunaratne and Seekkuge Prasanna completed the 6 Sri Lankan picks for the league as they were picked by Comilla Victorians and Rajshahi Kings.

Prasanna who last played an International match for Sri Lanka a year ago also featured in the recently concluded Afghanistan Premier League and has participated in various T20 Leagues all over the world including the BPL.

Asela Gunaratne will be featuring in just his 2nd foreign T20 League after he was picked by Mumbai Indians in 2017 following his heroics with Sri Lankan T20I team. He last played an International match for Sri Lanka in January, in the tri-series final against Bangladesh which Sri Lanka won.
